QBridge is an English language pathway for students who have been given a conditional offer of admission to a Queen\'s University undergraduate program.

English for Beginners is a free 6-module online ESL course that will give you the chance to improve your English skills with some fun activities. When you finish the course, you will receive a digital badge of completion.

This part-time 2-semester, 24-week intensive English language program develops knowledge, skills, and strategies for academic success in the Queen's Faculty of Law Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law.
This fall 12–week intensive English language program develops knowledge, skills, and strategies for academic success in the Queen's Faculty of Law Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law. It is only offered online once per year from early September to early December.
This 2-semester, 24–week intensive English language program develops knowledge, skills, and strategies for academic success in the Queen's Faculty of Law Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law. It is exclusively offered online.
Please note: Students enrolling in this course are not enrolling in the Graduate Certificate in Immigration and Citizenship Law.
This program is intended for pre-applicants to the Graduate Certificate in Immigration and Citizenship Law, i.e. those who do not have conditional offers.
There is an average of 11.25 scheduled class hours per week; while the vast majority of this time is synchronous, some class time may be given over for asynchronous work. Students should expect to spend more than 15-20 hours per week in total on class time, homework, and extra practice. The classes focus on integrated practice in all four language skills — listening, reading, speaking, writing — and introduces learning strategies common in Canadian post-secondary education, such as critical thinking and task-based learning, while following standards of academic integrity. Assessment is completed frequently through tests, essays, presentations, and projects which demonstrate students' mastery of the material taught in class. Classes usually take place between 7:00 and 10:00pm Kingston time, though every effort is made to make a convenient schedule for all participants within those times.
The 12-week program is composed of 4 courses:
| Core | 7.5 hours per week of integrated skills development at a University Preparation level. Taken in both semesters. |
| Lab-Spoken | 3 hours per week of focused speaking and listening practice. Taken in the 1st semester. |
| English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) | 3 hours per week of individualised practice researching and communicating about your major/research focus. Taken in the 2nd semester. |
| Elective | A 1.5-hour class taken every 2 weeks. The course is devoted to students' interests in which English is used practically to learn other topics/skills. This class is ungraded, but has a participation/attendance requirement to pass. |
To meet the conditions of the Queen's Faculty of Law Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law language requirements, you must get an average grade of A (85%) across your Core, Lab-Spoken, and ESAP courses, as well as meeting the minimum attendance requirements as outlined in our policy guide.
Program fees include online activities, such as films, games and discussion clubs. Kingston-based students studying online can also join our in-person Student Life Program activities.
Students entering this program are expected to be applying to Queen's Faculty of Law for the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law; however, please note that enrolling at Queen's School of English does not guarantee acceptance into any programs at Queen’s University.
Students are tested prior to acceptance and, based on their CaMLA English Placement Test (EPT) scores and/or interview, may not be permitted to join ESLA 850 if their English level does not meet a minimum requirement.
Students should register, after which you will receive confirmation of your free registration. Up to 7 days later, you will receive an email invitation to complete a pre-testing survey which will take you to our booking system when you have successfully completed it. You will set up an appointment to test and join us for your live, proctored English Placement Test. Applicants who are successful in the placement test will be invited to book an interview. Successful applicants will then be sent a tuition invoice and provided with the opportunity to enrol in ESLA 850.
Any queries about tests accepted or deadlines should be directed to immigrationdiploma@queensu.ca. No test score is necessary for acceptance into ESLA 850; however, we would only recommend students at an advanced level enrol in ESLA 850 as the level required for achieving a language waiver is very high.
Students who do not achieve an average of an A (85%) have not met the conditions for a language waiver for the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law program. Any queries about deadlines or application procedures should be directed to immigrationdiploma@queensu.ca.
Students who achieve an average of an A (85%) across the ESLA 850 course would be automatically issued with a language waiver for use in any application to the Faculty of Law’s Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law. No further testing would be necessary.
Please note that successful completion of ESLA 850 does not guarantee acceptance into the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law program and that a separate application is necessary to enrol in that program.
The bespoke 24-week program only operates online, and so while Queen's School of English does offer the comparable full-time 12-week ESLA 150 course on site, it would not be adapted for the extremely high-level students who normally participate in the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law program, nor would it be focused on needs which are specific to that group.
After registering, you will be emailed a link to arrange English language placement testing. If you are successful in that test and place into the ESLA 850 course, you will receive a tuition invoice and payment instructions.
The current tuition cost for ESLA 850 is $5,800, though additional textbook costs may apply.
Payment can be made in full before the start of the course; however, Queen’s School of English is delighted to be able to offer flexible payments to part-time students in the ESLA 850 program. Students have to pay 50% of their fees prior to program start date but have until April 1st to pay the balance.
Please note: Students who do not pay their balance in full will not receive a midterm report card and will not be permitted to rejoin classes until payment is made.
